Port Erroll project-1 photos from (L to R) initial sketch to final stage of my painting.
To begin with I drew a rough sketch to position the inshore fishing boats from several photos I had taken of the scene. The harbour is very exposed & painting there wasn't possibe that day due to a fresh breeze from the south. After that I started working on the boats. Then I painted the main area of water using wet-into-wet. Lastly I tackled the background & some more fine detain on the boats. I used artistic licence with the background after deciding to avoid painting the quay area as I felt it would be too distracting to the viewer. This was my first painting with watermixable oil paints.
